Now Watch Your Favorite Bollywood Movies On Your Phone

We are a country that loves our movies. Bollywood is an iconic industry that is famous all around the world. Though the number of movies releasing seem to be increasing every year, the number of movies that flop at the box office seem to be increasing too. Production houses are going into loses, and in order to change this statistic, have decided to come up with movies for mobiles. The recently concluded 3G auctions were the key to various production houses coming up with this strategy.

Mr Hiren Gada, Director of Shemaroo Entertainment, says, “With the 3G rollout, content will be delivered at a faster pace and quality will be better. With the current technology, a user can see 8-12 frames but with 3G it could be around 24-28” . Shemaroo Entertainment has not only plans to develop catalogs of famous movie dialogues, comedy scenes and songs which will allow users to download through mobile phones, but has also launched 15 minute versions of some of the biggest hits of all time in Sholay, Golmaal and Chupke Chupke, for mobile users.

UTV has adopted a different strategy in making audio versions of old and new movies like Sholay, Kaminey, and Rajneeti for mobiles users’ listening pleasure. On the same lines, UTV also planes to launch voice blogging by celebrities. They have even roped in John Abraham, Lara Dutta and Neha Dhupia and developed games based on the movies produced by UTV themselves. Mr Siddharth Roy Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of UTV Motion Pictures, says, “Most production houses are sitting on a goldmine of content. We have already put our team in place to identify how we can use our content in a suitable and innovative way for mobile users”.

Service providers provide such services for rates like Rs 30 for such applications, which is a one time charge, and another Rs 6 – 12 a minute for using it.

If these strategies work, it would be great not only for these production houses, but also for mobiles users who can watch movies or listen to their favorite celebrities anytime, and anywhere!
